North Korea, like many countries in Asia and the West, still has a very chauvinistic social structure, and it seems to me that the gender debate has not advanced much in those parts. Some services, I had the impression, are made only by women, as saleswomen or tour guides. All of them work outside the home, but the double journey, that is, the household chores, still carry on as female tasks. On the other hand, women access the university massively, practice all kinds of sports (women’s football is very popular and encouraged), and although there is a strict social code in the way of dressing, how to present oneself socially, I realized that women were more creative, colorful and authentic than men. The photos were taken between Pyongyang and Hyangsan in July 2017.
